Gable: most common home roofing style, forms a triangular end with a ridge at the peak
Gambrel: very often referred to as a “barn” roof; features two different slopes on two sides, the lower slope steeper than the upper slope
Hip: a roof with sloping ends and sides
Mansard: a roof with two slopes on each of four sides, the lower slope steeper than the upper slope; named after the French architect Francois Mansard
Shed: a single sided roof, sloped to shed rain, snow and ice
